OLD-TIME MUSIC EXPLOSION PART 2: THE PHOTOGRAPHS

OLD TIME ORACLE / David Bragger

OLD-TIME MUSIC EXPLOSION PART 2: THE PHOTOGRAPHS

By David Bragger

BraggerIn the past few months, I feel like I’ve lived a few musical lifetimes. A few months ago, The Old-Time Tiki Parlour hosted concerts featuring Molsky’s Mountain Drifters and Foghorn Stringband, putting Los Angeles in direct touch with some serious heavy hitters from the old-time music world. Last month I helped put on the 46th Annual Santa Barbara Old-Time Fiddlers’ Convention with the Goleta Valley Historical Society. The festival was everything I could have hoped for and more. Musicians from all around California and as far as Kansas, North Carolina, Washington and Connecticut came out for the festivities. We spent several days camping and jamming as a lead up to the festival itself. We also instituted a free concert the day before where locals and out-of-towners got a chance to hear some of the acts a day early! I’m already looking forward to next year.

The day after, the Tiki Parlour hosted a special “early banjo” workshop taught by Clarke Buehling and a recording session with Clarke and Cheap Suit Serenader/early jazz virtuoso Tom Marion. Finally, I had the honor of recording a mind-blowing session with Kirk Sutphin, Travis Stuart and Tom Sauber for an upcoming Kirk Sutphin CD/DVD set on the Tiki Parlour label! All of this, of course, means a ton of photographs have happened. A horde of wonderful memories and images surround me! After surviving through all the old-time fun, I started going through the hundreds and hundreds of photos that I’ve taken of these old-time musicians and Old-Time Tiki Parlour events. Enjoy!
