RIP: Art Rosenbaum

Art Rosembaum was a painter and folk musician. He was known for field recording Appalachian fiddle tunes and ritual music imported from Africa by enslaved people.’
In 2007, Dust-to-Digital released the first of two box sets of compilations: “Art of Field Recording Volume I: Fifty Years of Traditional American Music Documented by Art Rosenbaum,” which won a Grammy Award for best historical album. This was was followed by a second volume.
More than 200 recordings revealed the breadth of Art’s deep dive into traditional music: old-world ballads, sacred music from several southern denominations, dance music, blues – recordings of professional and amateur, public and private.
Art wrote these great books on traditional music:
