Vermont-based trio Low Lily adds a pop sparkle to American roots music, using stringed-instrument mastery and three-part harmony. Hear the delighting, exciting results when you see them perform on Saturday evening, March 2, in Pasadena at the Beckman Institute Auditorium on the Caltech campus
Tickets are now available at this link. An appetizer from their latest album is the song Where We Belong, by Liz Simmons and Flynn Cohen, married co-founders of the talented trio.
Low Lily’s concerts and recordings since 2015 have stoked a reputation for tight arrangements and fine songwriting, including an anthem for peace and justice sung by choirs worldwide. The band’s style blends the drive of bluegrass traditions with the thoughtfulness of contemporary folk.
The newest member of the trio is Natalie Padilla, a prizewinning Texas-swing fiddler also adept at styles from bluegrass to classical. Her sweet, clear voice blends well with the voices of Cohen and Simmons in tight harmonies.
Each member of the trio has recorded well-received solo albums. Together, even better. Their 2023 Low Lily album, Angels in the Wreckage, includes songs written by each of them and some by band co-founder Lissa Schneckenburger, plus a Shawn Colvin cover, Round of Blues.
The March 2 concert will be in the cozy Beckman Institute Auditorium on the Caltech campus. That’s inside the rectangular Beckman Institute building at 400 S. Wilson Ave., Pasadena, just west of the larger, round Beckman Auditorium. Free parking is nearby.
Tickets are $25 each, or $10 for Caltech students and anyone age 16 or younger. A $4 service charge per ticket applies to orders online (this link) and by phone (626-395-4652) for the Caltech Ticket Office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. There’s no service charge for tickets purchased in person at the ticket office during those hours. It’s in the Keith Spalding Building, 1200 California Blvd. If any tickets are still available the night of the concert, they will be for sale at the door with no service charge, for purchase only with cash or check.
