Clinton Davis in the house!
As Americana exploded off the front porch, suddenly the sound of mandolins and banjo’s were heard AND SEEN in Rock venues, muscling out guitar solos and synthesizers on the radio, basically causing all sorts of happy wonderment, inspiration and a bit of confusion. It spawned a whole new Gold rush, but with strings and plunky sounds that were unfamiliar. The heritage music of Appalachia and the Mississippi Delta came out of the proverbial closet. Almost overnight, ears were pining for an honesty and authenticity that, as luck would have it, Clinton Davis had in his pocket.
Hailing from San Diego, Clinton, an Old-time American folk musician, is one of our nation’s best. A multi- instrumentalist, fiddle, banjo, harmonica, mandolin, guitar AND piano player. A force.
With fiddle tunes from every corner of the US, lonesome cowboy songs, jug band and blues tunes of every shade, old-timey gospel, murder ballads, train-wreck ballads, drinking ballads, (he’s got a ballad for just about anything) the stories within predate Clinton by generations. But he sings them with the absolute clarity and sincerity spinning the past forward into a powerful experience.
He’s a leader in the new Oldtime craze. When you witness him perform you’ll know exactly why.
He’s got a ton of wonderful videos, it was hard to pick which to show you here…So see the rest on Ytube
Opening the show for Clinton is Charlie Marks with a rare style you’d swear came straight outta the hollers. Bright and engaging, Charlie, winner of the MMP Songwriter Showdown, is making his mark (!!) in the Oldtime world as a talented folk singer, banjo & guitar picker.
A troubadour across America, stationed near Reno, 4 albums under his belt, tunes on Spotify, Charlie is a delight and he happens to hold a special place in our hearts. He’ll make you feel like dancing from the bottom of your toes.
