One of the founding principles of Maine Fiddle Camp was to promote the traditional music and dance native to our own state and more broadly to northern New England. There are several Swedish enclaves in Maine, most in Aroostook County, where Swedish culture, music and dance is still celebrated. Check out “Midsommar” held every year on the summer solstice.

Fiddle, Cello, Nyckelharpa, Polskas, Schottisches, waltzes. What do all these have in common you might ask? Well, how about the traditional dance music of Scandinavia and more specifically, Sweden. This year we had a number of young musicians visiting from Sweden. Arvid, Viktoria, Tua. They and their MFC friends brought Swedish music and dance alive this year at MFC.
