Kyshona’s lyrics of hope and strength and her dynamic blend of soul, gospel, rock, and folk have earned critical acclaim from NPR Music and Billboard Magazine.

Kyshona blends roots, rock, R&B, and folk with lyrical prowess to uplift marginalized voices. Her music expresses themes of empowerment, overcoming adversity, and finding hope. Kyshona will be joined by singers Nickie Conley and Jannelle Means.

Her album Legacy (2024) is a moving musical manifestation of her own genealogical research, incorporating choir performances and sermons from her family archive. NPR Music, the Bluegrass Situation and Billboard Magazine have praised her ability to put her stamp on nearly every genre, for her lyric qualities and commitment to her message.

Before embarking on a solo career, she worked as a collaborative vocalist with Adia Victoria and Margo Price, the latter which she appeared alongside on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Her 2022 song “Nighttime Animal,” written in collaboration with ZG Smith, was named to American Songwriter’s Top 25 Songs of 2022 and enjoyed spins on AAA radio. At the 2021 Newport Folk Festival, she sang backing vocals for Chaka Khan, who she names as one of her biggest inspirations.

Kyshona continues to employ her background in music therapy, where she first started writing songs alongside the students and inmates under her care. Through her organization Your Song, she facilitates therapeutic songwriting sessions that encourage participants to process trauma, build self-esteem and manage stress. Last year, she gave the keynote address at the Fulbright Foreign Student Enrichment Seminar. She is also featured in the 2023 PBS television show “Ear to the Common Ground,” where she gathered fans around a dining table to discuss voting rights in America.

With the background of a licensed music therapist, the curiosity of a writer, the resolve of an activist, and a bold and expressive musical voice, Kyshona is dedicated in her pursuit for the healing power of song.
