In their concert and festival performances, Kathy Kallick, Annie Staninec, Cary Black, Greg Booth, and Tom Bekeny feature selections from Horrible World and Foxhounds, two highly-acclaimed albums which each spent a year in the upper echelon of the National Bluegrass Survey (Bluegrass Unlimited chart). In addition, Foxhounds was a #1 album on the Roots Music Report Contemporary Bluegrass charts, and Horrible World was a #1 album (and the KKB a #1 Top Artist) on the Folk-DJ charts.
Their show includes powerful and compelling Kathy compositions; dazzling interpretations of lesser-known instrumentals led by Annie, Greg, and Tom; distinctive covers of a wide range of songs, with sources ranging from the Carter Family and Coon Creek Girls to Bill Monroe and Mac Martin to Rose Maddox and Richard Thompson; classics from the Good Ol’ Persons and earlier KKB releases; and plenty of new material … some of which is part of Kathy’s second tribute to her mother, Dodi Kallick, What Are They Doing In Heaven Today? (Live Oak Records/2022), and some of which is drawn from the next Kathy Kallick Band album, scheduled for a 2023 release.
Led by one of the music’s extraordinary composers and vocalists, the Kathy Kallick Band has nearly as much fun as the audience when performing, and their presentation — ranging from electrifying to humorous to bittersweet to soulful — is always inclusive.
