Hailing from Topeka, Kansas in the United States, Andy McKee is a world renowned guitarist best known for his original compositions for steel-string acoustic guitar. Andy has performed as a soloist in over 40 countries around the world, bringing a universal message of music without words.
Initially intrigued with the electric guitar and rock music in his early teen years, Andy became fascinated with the possibilities of the acoustic guitar after hearing artists like Michael Hedges, Preston Reed, and other modern fingerstyle guitarists. As his abilities developed, Andy began writing original music for solo guitar utilizing altered tunings, percussion, partial capos, and various other techniques to capture a full sound on one guitar.
In 2005, Andy’s music was brought to people around the world as his original piece “Drifting” began to go viral on the burgeoning website YouTube. Many of his other videos like “Rylynn,” “For My Father” and “Into the Ocean” gained traction with viewers as well, receiving millions of views. Andy’s videos have had hundreds of millions of views and as a result, inspired people around the world to play fingerstyle guitar.
Musicians as diverse as John Petrucci, Prince, Eric Johnson, Don Ross, Josh Groban, Steve Lukather, Lee Ritenour, and David Foster have all recognized Andy as a unique and talented artist during his career and as such, he has recorded or toured with each of them.
