SCDH (Southern California Dulcimer Heritage) presents its 27th annual / 2nd virtual dulcimer festival, Friday night to Sunday, September 24 – 26, 2021, Pacific Time.
Featured performer-instructors will be Aubrey Atwater (RI) on mountain dulcimer and Jody Marshall (VA) on hammered dulcimer.
Southern California instructors will be: Patti Amelotte (HD), Bill Dempsey (Uke; How to Plan/Lead Sing-Alongs), Barbara Gershman (HD), Terry Gucwa (Make a Composite Music Video), Karen Harvey (HD), Leo Kretzner (MD), Joellen Lapidus (MD) and Patty McCollom (Bodhran; Tinwhistle) – all online.
Friday evening, 6:30-8:30 pm will include 3 specialized Jam Sessions via Zoom including How to Jam (Focus on Fretted Dulcimers). All instruments are welcome at the Mellow and the Up-Tempo Jams.
Saturday, 9am – 4:15 pm, will include 18 Online workshops and 2 Playing Circles for both fretted and hammered dulcimers. The traditional Community Jam welcomes all instruments.
Saturday evening concert, 5:30-8 pm, will feature headline performers Jody Marshall and Aubrey Atwater. Opening the concert will be Patti Amelotte and Brenda Hunter on hammered dulcimers and Joellen Lapidus on mountain dulcimer.
Sunday: Two 4-hour Focus Workshops offer special instructional time with the headliners. Jody Marshall will teach “We Need A Little Christmas” 10-2 pm for hammered dulcimer plus all melody instruments. Aubrey Atwater’s workshop 11-3 pm will be “Potpourri: Repertoire & Technique.”
